# Apple Health Integration

> Connect Apple Health (HealthKit) with GymLive to sync your iOS health data

# Apple Health (HealthKit) Integration

Apple Health provides a central and secure place for your health and fitness information on iOS devices. By connecting Apple Health to GymLive, your coach can monitor your workouts, activity, and health metrics in real-time.

## What Data Can Be Synced?

When you connect Apple Health to GymLive, the following data types can be synchronized:

* **Activity Data**: Steps, distance, calories burned, exercise minutes
* **Workouts**: All workout types including strength training, cardio, and more
* **Heart Rate**: Resting, active, and workout heart rates
* **Sleep**: Sleep duration and quality metrics
* **Body Measurements**: Weight, body fat percentage (if available)
* **Recovery Metrics**: HRV, resting heart rate trends

## Setup Instructions

  <Step title="Set Up Your Health Profile">
    Before connecting to GymLive, ensure your Apple Health profile is complete:

    1. Open the **Health** app on your iPhone
    2. Tap the **Summary** tab, then tap your profile picture
    3. Tap **Health Details**, then tap **Edit**
    4. Add your information (date of birth, height, weight, etc.)
    5. Tap **Done**

    In the GymLive app:

    1. Navigate to **Settings** > **Integrations**
    2. Select **Apple Health**
    3. Tap **Connect Apple Health**
    4. You'll be redirected to Apple Health permissions

  <Step title="Grant Permissions">
    When prompted by iOS:

    1. Review the list of health data types GymLive requests
    2. Toggle **ON** the data types you want to share
    3. Tap **Allow** in the top right corner

    <Warning>
      You must grant at least basic permissions (steps, workouts) for the integration to work properly.

  <Step title="Enable Background Sync">
    For automatic data syncing:

    1. Go to iPhone **Settings** > **General** > **Background App Refresh**
    2. Ensure **Background App Refresh** is ON
    3. Find **GymLive** in the list and toggle it ON

    <Note>
      Background sync won't work if Low Power Mode is enabled. Go to Settings > Battery and turn off Low Power Mode.

## Managing Permissions

You can modify Apple Health permissions at any time:

1. Open iPhone **Settings**
2. Scroll down and tap **Health**
3. Tap **Data Access & Devices**
4. Select **GymLive**
5. Toggle permissions for specific data types on/off

## Apple Watch Integration

If you have an Apple Watch, it automatically tracks your activity data and syncs with Apple Health. To ensure proper syncing:

### Sleep Tracking Setup

  1. Open the **Health** app on iPhone
  2. Tap **Get Started** under Set Up Sleep
  3. Follow the prompts to set:
     * Sleep goals (recommended hours)
     * Bedtime and wake up schedule
     * Sleep Focus settings
  4. Ensure your Apple Watch is charged at least 30% before bed
  5. Wear your watch to sleep for at least 1 hour

### Workout Tracking

Your Apple Watch automatically detects and records many workout types. For manual tracking:

1. Open the **Workout** app on Apple Watch
2. Select your workout type
3. Tap **Start**
4. Your workout will sync to Apple Health and then to GymLive

## Troubleshooting

    2. Check Background App Refresh is enabled for GymLive
    3. Ensure Low Power Mode is OFF
    4. Try force-closing and reopening the GymLive app
    5. Pull down to refresh in the GymLive app

    1. Open the Health app and verify the workout appears there
    2. If missing in Health, check your Apple Watch synced properly
    3. On Apple Watch: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Sync Data
    4. Wait 5-10 minutes for sync to complete

    Some data types might be restricted:

    1. Check Settings > Health > Data Access > GymLive
    2. Ensure all required data types are enabled
    3. Some data may have privacy restrictions based on your settings

## Privacy & Security

* All health data is encrypted and transmitted securely
* You control exactly which data types are shared with GymLive
* Your coach only sees the data you explicitly authorize
* You can revoke access at any time through Apple Health settings
* GymLive follows Apple's strict privacy guidelines for health data
