Samsung Health Integration

Samsung Health is a comprehensive health and fitness platform that works seamlessly with Samsung devices and wearables. By connecting Samsung Health to GymLive, your coach can monitor your fitness data from Galaxy watches, phones, and other Samsung devices.
Samsung Health syncs to GymLive through Health Connect on Android devices. This requires a one-time setup to enable data flow.

What Data Can Be Synced?

Samsung Health provides comprehensive fitness tracking:
  • Activity Data: Steps, floors climbed, distance, calories
  • Workouts: Auto-detected and manual workouts with GPS data
  • Heart Rate: Continuous monitoring from Galaxy Watch
  • Sleep: Advanced sleep stages and sleep score
  • Stress: Stress levels and management data
  • Body Composition: Weight, muscle mass, body fat (with compatible devices)
  • Blood Oxygen: SpO2 measurements
  • Women’s Health: Cycle tracking data

Prerequisites

Required Setup

  • Android device with Samsung Health installed
  • Health Connect app (pre-installed on Android 14+)
  • GymLive app with latest updates
  • Active internet connection for syncing

Setup Instructions

Ensure Health Connect is Installed

For Android 13 and below:
  1. Open Google Play Store
  2. Search for “Health Connect”
  3. Install if not already present
Android 14+ has Health Connect pre-installed.

Connect Samsung Health to Health Connect

This is the crucial step for data flow:
  1. Open Samsung Health app
  2. Tap the menu icon (three lines) or go to Settings
  3. Select Health Connect
  4. If prompted, install Health Connect
  5. Tap to open Health Connect settings

Grant Samsung Health Permissions

First time setup:
  1. You’ll see a permission request screen
  2. Select all data types you want to share
  3. Tap Allow to confirm
You must grant permissions through Samsung Health > Settings > Health Connect, NOT through phone Settings > Apps.

Enable Data Sync

Ensure continuous syncing:
  1. In Samsung Health, go to Settings
  2. Tap Sync with Samsung account
  3. Toggle ON if not already enabled
  4. Tap Sync now to force immediate sync

Connect GymLive to Health Connect

Final step to complete the flow:
  1. Open GymLive app
  2. Go to Settings > Integrations
  3. Select Health Connect
  4. Grant necessary permissions
  5. Samsung Health data will now flow to GymLive

Verifying the Connection

To ensure data is flowing correctly:
  1. Check Samsung Health:
    • Open Samsung Health
    • Verify recent activities are logged
    • Go to Settings > Health Connect
    • Confirm “Connected” status
  2. Check Health Connect:
    • Open Health Connect app
    • Go to App permissions
    • Verify both Samsung Health and GymLive are listed
    • Check data categories are enabled for both
  3. Check GymLive:
    • Open GymLive
    • Go to your activity dashboard
    • Pull down to refresh
    • Data should appear within 5-10 minutes

Galaxy Watch Integration

Modern Galaxy Watches with Wear OS:
  1. Ensure watch is paired with your phone
  2. Open Samsung Health on watch
  3. Start workouts directly from watch
  4. Data syncs automatically to phone
  5. From phone, it flows through Health Connect to GymLive
Enable “Continuous heart rate” in watch settings for better tracking.

Troubleshooting

Most common issue - follow these steps:
  1. Update Apps: Ensure latest versions in Galaxy Store and Play Store
  2. Correct Permission Path:
    • Go to Samsung Health > Settings > Health Connect > App permissions
    • NOT phone Settings > Apps > Health Connect
  3. Force Sync:
    • Samsung Health > Settings > Sync with Samsung account
    • Tap “Sync now” and wait 2-3 minutes
  4. Re-establish Connection:
    • Disconnect Samsung Health from Health Connect
    • Clear Health Connect cache
    • Reconnect and re-grant permissions
If only some data types appear:
  1. Check specific permissions in Health Connect
  2. Some data types may require:
    • Specific Samsung devices (e.g., body composition)
    • Premium Samsung Health features
    • Manual entry in Samsung Health first
  3. Verify data exists in Samsung Health before expecting sync
  1. Check watch-phone connection:
    • Open Galaxy Wearable app
    • Ensure watch is connected
  2. On watch: Settings > Apps > Samsung Health > Permissions
  3. Enable all required permissions
  4. Restart both watch and phone
  5. Open Samsung Health on both devices
Normal sync times:
  • Real-time data: 1-5 minutes
  • Historical data: Up to 30 minutes
  • First sync: Up to 1 hour
To speed up:
  1. Ensure strong internet connection
